Battle of the Twins Race at Calabogie

I understand through the rumour mill that there will be a BOTT race at Calabogie. What bikes are eligible, and what year is the cutoff?

Any insight would be appreciated

There are three classes within the BOTT moniker, heavyweight, middleweight and lightweight.

Heavy - all four stroke twins from 800cc to 1100cc
Supersport 900, RC51, VTR1000, 851, 888, 916
Virago 920, Virago 1100, TDR850

Middleweight - all four stroke twins from 500cc to 750cc
EX500, NT650, SV650, Vision 550, Paso 750, Panta 650, F1 750
CB500T, XS650, GS550, TX750

Lightweight - all four stroke twins up to 480cc
EX250, EX300, EX400, CB305, CB350, CB450
Seca 400, KZ440, GS400,

As very much a lover of twins and singles, I really do think a battle of the twins could be a really great idea if structured safely and appropriately.

However, do we really think it is a good idea to potentially have a 28hp Honda CB77 out there racing a sprint race at the same time as a 136hp RC51 on a track with multiple crests and tight corners??

This looks as it could be a recipe for catastrophe.

That same bike can run in Open Jr with the same concerns.

You can play “what if” but the likelihood is that the owner of that bike is not registering for that race.

Trying to get my SV back together for this. I had to cannibalise a bunch of bits of it for the endurance bike bit it will fit nicely into Middle

Unless there is a year cutoff my 400 is a twin so it would fit in the lightweight twins class.

I initially liked the idea of a battle of the twins race but having reviewed the eligible motorcycles it doesn't make sense to me. A modern 300 vs a 1981 KZ 440 , no comparison. IMHO this race should be limited to P4.A better match would be a 87' CBX 250 VS a cb 450 or KZ 440.

I think the idea here is to make this as inclusive as possible. This is no one's primary class - it's simply more racing, and more fun.

Will my 650 Hawk be competitive in Middleweight against Ducati 748s? Not a chance. However, I'm looking forward to beating all my buddies with Hawks!
