Lemans start at Shannonville

Postby Dave M » Tue Feb 21, 2017 4:43 pm

OK sidecar people, this portion of the forum has been so dead. Time to kick it up a notch. I would like to get everyone's thoughts and reaction to trying a Lemans start to the sidecar race at Shannonville. Here's how it could happen: we go out for our warmup lap and then line up on the north side of the track in order of our normally assigned grid position. Machines will be in neutral, but running (so yes, not a true Lemans start but this would be just a trial so so no sense making it too arduous). Drivers and passengers both line up on the south side of the track, the flag drops and we run across the track and away we go. It could add another level to an already interesting race and even change the outcome. Having said that, concessions may have to be made for someone with a bad knee (talking about you Mr Powell). In a case like that, only one member of the team could run as long as the other did not make a move toward the machine until he or she was touched by his/her team mate. The initial idea for this has already been floated with our comp. coordinator and we have approval to at least discuss it.
Good idea- bad idea? Fire away.
The trouble with trouble is that it starts out as fun.

You are assuming that everyone's rig will idle, in neutral, unattended.

A passenger is just that...so the driver carries the passenger to the rig and gently places them aboard. Or a three-legged race across the track? That I'd watch!

I have a bad knee too... should we bring doctors notes for the handicap?

Paul, a "passenger" is NOT "just a passenger"
You won't get very far with that.

You could take it in turns to push each other to the rig in wheel chairs or better yet have a wheel chair race....motorized wheel chair race.

Fully aware! I filled in for Shelley last spring at Roebling and NOLA. Once again my attempt at humour fails.

Ok, is there anyone else out there who doesn't have rickets or scurvy or a lumpy idle and actually wants to do this?
Let's hear from others in the P2 crowd, otherwise this idea will probably die a lonely death.

I think you should do the first corner as driver only and then the passenger has to jump on 'Dukes of Hazard' Style between corners 1 and 2...

...the nice thing about this group is I don't have to explain who the 'Dukes' are...

First you'd have to find some mature people in VRRA :)

I was trying to avoid saying "old" Gary as to not hurt anybodies feelings. :D Although the majority of us might fit that description  ...

And once again MY ability to recognize humour fails...
We need to find you a permanent ride Paul?
