Looking for a Machine Shop in Ottawa region

Postby Dave W » Fri Mar 17, 2023 8:54 am

Seems Automotive Machine Shops are going the way of the dodo bird around Ottawa, closing and disappearing. Have tried a few i used to deal with and found them closed.

I live in Ashton and was asking local shops for ATV and Motorcycle here where they go and found out they don't. Now they just buy a new complete head or cylinder/piston and replace vs rebuild.

So, i am looking for a machine shop in a reasonable driving distance that i can get work performed on 2 engines i have apart. If none then i would consider shipping although that costs more.

I have a Laverda triple which needs all 6 Guides R&R, seats and valves refaced, assemble and test.
Not a race bike so only looking for standard 3 angle cuts.
I also have a Husqvarna 250 that needs cylinder bore/hone for new piston.

Anyone have a shop contact i can try?
Regards,
Dave W.

Tanner at Sib’s Powersport and Machine in Dorchester Ontario.
Not close to you, but definitely worth the postage.

I have used AB Toolex
(613) 267-6386. Located in Perth. The owner is a bike guy.

Thanks for replies.

I had seen Sib's in B2B and noted recommendations for them but was looking for closer as they are down by London. If i can't find local i will contact them.

I will try AB Toolex on Monday and see if they can help. Perth is very close to me.

Dave.

Thanks for new suggestion. Will try them.
Did they have another name before? Location looks familiar to me from the past.

AB Toolex can't help me on either engine as it turns out.
He can R&R guides but does not have the tools to do the rest of the work, same for the Cyl B&H.
He does machining work mostly, repairs, make new parts, etc.

Thought i would update this.
Power Automotive has my parts and should have it all back to me in a couple of weeks.
Not easy getting there as they shut down 417 access to Bronson Ave!

Sigh. Construction already and its not even summer yet! :(
