Mid-Ohio on board race and crash video

Postby Doug MacRae » Fri Jul 29, 2011 10:28 pm

Mid-Ohio is treacherous in the wet! Hard to see until the end of the video but it is raining lightly and I as I line up a pass for the win on the last lap on Martin on the Big D Cycles Triumph , the wheels wash out as I only even think about opening the throttle. They tried to run one more race but four bikes went down in the exact same spot I crashed and they canceled racing for the rest of the day. I fixed the damage and raced again Sunday morning only to hole a piston in the brutal 100+ degree F. heat. Listen for Dave Roper passing by on the howling 350 Benelli 4 after the crash. Look for Scott, Jeff and Harry, Mick, Chris and Kenny C. all in there somewhere making cameos.

Turns out the piston was cracked- no damage to the bore, we had a matching spare so the bike is being readied for Mosport. The cracked piston turned the motor into a big smoke pump, smoke was pouring from the breather hose.
