Cool video for the TZ250 fans!

Postby Peter Balfour » Tue Aug 09, 2011 3:28 pm

This is a cool video of Gary Cowan on a stock reverse cylinder TZ250 going against much faster machines. Inspiration for Mosport for all the TZ riders! :D

Gary Cowan campaigned the 1989 grand prix trail on the Dutch backed Doc shop Yamaha. He returned to Northern Ireland for the annual end of season Sunflower trophy meeting at Kirkistown. Earlier in the day, Gary easily won the 250 race, and he also entered his machine, just a production TZ 250, in the superbike races. The organisers tried to talk him out of it, pointing out that Ron Haslam was bringing the Pepsi RG 500 suzuki, Brian Morrison on the 750 RC Honda,Steve Cull with the super fast rotary Norton, Eddie Laycock aboard his 500 GP Honda ...and more! However, Gary brought the 250 to the line for this, the second superbike race.

What up wit dat, the video ended just as the RG 500 was about to join the fun. Great race though. I don't think we saw the whole story. Haslam came from the back of the feild on the RG. How did it end?

At the end of the video, YouTube puts up a number of other suggested videos to watch. If you run your mouse of the the first video you will see it says TZ250 part 1 and if you run it over the second suggested video, it says TZ250 part 2. You need to watch part 2 to get the whole effect of how mighty the 250 really is.

Best move them to heavy. They are way too fast for light. :P

Thank you so much for posting that..that was probably the best piece of riding I have ever seen on the internet !! ..
Makes me want to break out the RS125 and go harass some 600's or 1000's on a trackday..

Was saddened to read this in the comments...
Sadly a short five months later, Gary would crash at Daytona, leaving him paralysed from the chest down.

Here is the direct link to Part 2...

thanks again,

Since we are talking about TZ250's here is a good video on the early career of John Kocinski who kicked ass on a TZ250 reverse cylinder. These videos are starting to make me feel totally unqualified to ride my TZ  .
